| TECHNOLOGY INFORMATION SERVICES
Technology Information Services is responsible for all aspects
of technology implementation and support for the Newport News Public
Schools. Our divisions are as follows:
HARDWARE ENGINEERING
Systems Administration - Administration and maintenance
of the major computing systems which support NNPS instructional
and administrative services.
Network and Communication Services
- Administration and maintenance of the wide area and local area
voice and data networks, network security, and computer network
environments.
Technical Support - Provides
all general, end-user support. Directly operates Help Desk facility
and the management of desktop computer workstation maintenance.
Routes support requests to other points of contact within Technology
Services when assistance from within other areas of specialty support
is required.
Audio-Visual Support - Responsible
for the maintenance and repair of electronic equipment within the
school division. Some of the equipment supported includes: clock
systems, intercom systems, sound support (PA), projector screens,
overhead projectors, scoreboards, and related equipment.
SOFTWARE ENGINEERING
Resource Management - Serves to manage resource allocation
requirements for technology implementation programs as well as the
general operation of the Technology Services Department.
Web Administration - Provides support for all School Division
web-based services. Includes support for instructional use of web
services, all intranet services, as well as web front end systems
associated with many administrative computing systems.
Database Administration - Maintenance and management of
all School Division database systems.
Integration Services - Manages statistical reporting analysis
requirements for the School Division as well as software development
issues related to database conversion and access programs.
Configuration Management / Quality Assurance - Responsible
for management of configuration tracking issues relating to all
systems implementation projects as well as for generating test procedures
to ensure proper systems operation.
Project Administration - Manages functional, end-user requirements
within system implementation projects as well as within the normal,
daily operation of major computing systems.
INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY
Technology Training - Instructionally, the Technology Training
group will stimulate large-scale, technology-based improvements
in teaching and learning by facilitating, through unique and collaborative
initiatives, effective use of information and communication technology
for, by and with NNPS teachers and support staff. They will also
offer training services that inspire internal and school-based staff
to productively, successfully and efficiently meet the needs of
the division.
Assistive Technology
- Provides any service that directly assists a child with a disability
in the selection, acquisition, or use of an AT device.
