GED Testing ProgramThe Tests of General Educational Development (GED) are developed by the American Council on Education to enable persons who have not graduated from high school to demonstrate the attainment of abilities normally associated with completion of a high school program of study. The GED battery includes five tests that measure the skills considered to be the major outcomes of a high school education:
The GED test is administered twice monthly in Newport News (view schedule). Application must be made 10 days prior to testing (but is on a "first come, first served" basis). A fee of $45.00 is charged to take the entire battery of five tests. Retests are $7.00 per section. Acceptable payment is by cash or money order. Reasonable accommodations may be available upon request for individuals with disabilities who qualify. An applicant must be at least 18 years of age and out of school to qualify for GED testing unless enrolled in the alternative education program. A current government-issued picture identification is required for registration. RACE TO GED! Official GED Practice Tests are given free on a regular basis in the Continuing Education Department at Warwick High School (51 Copeland Lane, Newport News, VA 23601). The Practice Test is half the length of the 7.5 hour actual GED test. It is a very good indicator of whether an individual is ready to take the actual GED test. if you pass the practice test, you may be able to take the actual GED Exam for free. This offer is good as long as grant funds are available.) For more information or if you have questions, please call the Department of Adult & Continuing Education at (757) 283-7830. |
