The Elementary Science team has partnered with multiple local entities to provide additional real-world experiences and learning opportunities for our students.


Virginia Living Museum

Virginia Living Museum

Students in first and third grade experience a field trip to the Virginia Living Museum. To learn more about conservation, human impact, and plants and animals native to Virginia and the Coastal Plains that are aligned to the Virginia Standards of Learning.

  • First Grade: The field trip includes one of the programs listed and a walking tour of the Virginia Living Museum. The programs include: Natural Science Programs (Animals of Virginia, Web of Life, Thinking like a Scientist, Cycles of Survival.


The Mariners Museum

The Mariners' Museum

Students in Fifth Grade have the opportunity for two learning experiences with The Mariners Museum. The programs offered by the museum provide students with real world experiences dealing with the following topics that are aligned to the Virginia Standards of Learning.

  • Earthquakes, Volcanoes, and Tsunami
  • Buoyancy
  • What's In My Water
  • The Eye of a Hurricane
  • Are We There Yet?

Virginia Zoo

Virginia Zoo

Students in Kindergarten through Second Grade experience the Zoo-to-You program that provides students with the opportunity to experience using their five senses to compare animal structures, learn about different habitats, and life cycles of different animals.


Jefferson Lab

Jefferson Lab

Selected students in Fifth Grade attend a two day field trip to the Jefferson Lab to become a part of the BEAMS (Becoming Enthusiastic About Math and Sciecne) program. Students have opportunities to visit the Lab and interact with mathematicians and scientists in a real-world setting.
