Adding Endorsements
Note: All forms mentioned here are available in the Licensure Forms tab. To be considered official, transcripts must be sent directly from the institution to the licensure coordinator (electronically or by mail). The institution can also mail the transcripts, or the employee may provide transcripts to HR in the original sealed envelope. Photocopies and transcripts sent electronically to the employee are also not official.
Add a Degree
You can add a degree (Master’s, Educational Specialist, Doctorate) to your license by following the steps in VALO (PDF) and providing the following information to the HR Licensure Coordinator:
- Official Transcripts reflecting a conferred degree
- NNPS License Request form (PDF)
- Receipt of $25 Payment (from VALO)
- Contact your HR staffing coordinator to update pay (if applicable)
Add an Endorsement by Praxis (no transcripts required)
You can add most endorsements to a CP or PGP license by passing the corresponding Praxis Exam and paying the appropriate fee in VALO (make sure to save the receipt). Once you have added your endorsement in VALO, email the Licensure Coordinator when your new endorsement has been confirmed. Otherwise, the new endorsement will not be updated in NNPS records.

This does not apply to the following endorsements:
- Early/primary education PreK-3
- Elementary education PreK-6 endorsement
- Special education endorsements
- Reading Specialist endorsement
- Admin & Supervision PreK-12
It also does not apply to those who hold a:
- Technical Professional License
- Vocational Evaluator License
- Pupil Personnel Services License
- School Manager License
- Division Superintendent License
Admin & Supervision PreK-12 Requirements
- Master's Degree (must provide transcripts reflecting a conferred degree)
- College Verification form
- Report on Experience form: NNPS Personnel or Blank (do not fill out the bottom portion)
- SLLA score report
- NNPS License Request form
- Receipt of $50 Fee Payment
Reading Specialist
- Master's Degree (must provide transcripts reflecting a conferred degree)
- College Verification form
- Report on Experience form: NNPS Personnel or Blank (do not fill out the bottom portion)
- Praxis score report
- NNPS License Request form
- Receipt of $50 Fee Payment
Math Specialist Elementary
- Master's Degree (must provide transcripts reflecting a conferred degree) or (provide transcript reflecting 21 semester hours in mathematics from a variety of areas
- College Verification form (if you completed a Math Specialist program)
- Report on Experience form: NNPS Personnel or Blank (do not fill out the bottom portion)
- NNPS License Request form
- Receipt of $50 Fee Payment
Math Specialist, Elementary and Middle Education
- Master's Degree (must provide transcripts reflecting a conferred degree) or (provide transcript reflecting 21 semester hours in mathematics from a variety of areas
- Virginia license with an Algebra I add-on or Mathematics endorsement
- College Verification form (if you completed a Math Specialist program)
- Report on Experience form: NNPS Personnel or Blank (do not fill out the bottom portion)
- NNPS License Request form
- Receipt of $50 Fee Payment
Gifted Endorsement
- College Verification form
- NNPS License Request form
- Report on Experience form: NNPS Personnel or Blank (do not fill out the bottom portion)
- Receipt of $50 Fee Payment
- Transcripts reflecting 12 semester hours of graduate-level coursework in gifted education
