Huntington Middle School: The Next Chapter

The proud history of Huntington High School and Huntington Middle School will continue with the construction of a new 600-student middle school, anticipated to open during the second semester of the 2025-2026 school year.

The new middle school is part of the city’s Southeast Community Resource Area that is set to include a public library and community center, as well as sports and recreation features.

Construction Progress Update

April 24, 2025

The Huntington Middle School building site is divided into four (4) building zones, A, B, C, and D. MEB General Contractors, Inc, the Contractor, is developing the building pad in the order of zones C, D, B, and A. The work completed in these building zones are as follows:

In Zone "C" the contractor has completed the following:

• Finish installation of load bearing masonry walls in the corridors.
• Waiting on structural steel. First structural steel anticipated to arrive mid-April '25.

In Zone "D" of the building the contractor has completed the following:

• Plumbing rough-ins under-slab for the kitchen and cafeteria are complete.
• Electrical rough-ins under-slab for the kitchen and cafeteria are complete.
• Start prep work for the structural slab on grade for the kitchen and cafeteria.
• Plumbing rough-ins under slab complete for the classrooms.
• Contractor is currently roughing-in branch circuits in the classrooms.
• Load bearing masonry walls 75% complete for the classrooms.

In Zone "B" of the building the contractor has completed the following:

• Plumbing rough-ins under-slab for classrooms is approximately 75% complete.
• Electrical rough-ins under slab for classrooms is approximately 75% complete.
• Load bearing masonry walls are approximately 20% complete for classrooms.
• Administration area concrete slab is on grade and complete.
• Begin prep for structural slab in classrooms.

In Zone "A" of the building the contractor has completed the following:

• Auditorium concrete slab is on grade and complete.
• Auditorium stage is formed and sub-floor currently being prepped for concrete.
• Plumbing rough-ins under-slab for the band room and chorus room are complete.
• Electrical rough-ins under-slab for the band room and chorus room are complete.
• Remaining Plumbing and Electrical rough-ins under slab in classrooms are approximately 25% complete.
• Begin to prep for the structural slab on the main corridor, space A1002.

Field House

• Below grade insulated foundations are complete.
• Plumbing rough-ins under grade are approximately 10% complete.
• Electrical rough-ins under grade are approximately 10% complete.
• Load bearing masonry walls are approximately 20% complete.
