| CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION
In Newport News, Career & Technical Education (CTE) serves
students in grades 6-12 providing them with contextual learning
experiences in six program areas:
These six program areas offer over 60 different courses in some
of the top career areas that exist globally. CTE students learn
academic concepts in an applied instructional setting which prepares
them for success and enhanced earning potential in their chosen
career fields. This instruction allows students to receive post-secondary
education credits while completing their high school diploma requirements.
Students participating in these dual enrollment and industry certification
programs gain fundamental knowledge that facilitates smooth transition
into a college setting.

CTE programs can direct you to your career path as you head for college and/or the workplace. CTE captures business and community opportunities to enhance our students’ knowledge of the “real world” and its career opportunities.
Dual Enrollment at TNCC (Guidelines and Procedures)
Students in Newport News Public Schools who have registered for a Career and Technical Education course have the opportunity, after successfully completing the course, to obtain college credits through Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC). Students will be taught at their home high school by an approved dual enrollment teacher.
