Youth Asset Building

The Department of Youth Development encourages students to grow to their full potential by providing supportive relationships, meaningful opportunities, and access to services that help them graduate college, career and citizen ready..

Engaging Students

We work to engage students beyond the classroom by actively encouraging them to join clubs, activities, and organizations based on their interests. These organizations allow students to build on and highlight their strengths. We offer an array of choices from ultimate frisbee to chess to knitting! Learn more about Student Involvement at NNPS.
Providing Leadership Opportunities

We provide students opportunities for leadership to develop skills essential to success in school and life through:

- Youth Leadership Alliance
- CampConnect
- Student Council Association
- School-based leadership academies
- Club and organizational leadership

Supporting Students

We understand that students area faced with many challenges and need support for various reasons.

NNPS supports students through academic tutoring, mentoring services, crisis support, and provides support for a variety of social and emotional needs, e.g. groups for students dealing with homelessness, family conflict, or whose parents are deployed.

Teaching Social Responsibility

Providing opportunities and support for our students to become citizen-ready is a priority in NNPS. There are a number of clubs and organizations in each school with a primary focus on serving their school, local, national, and/or global communities.

Service learning experiences have also been embedded in classroom practice in our elementary schools and a partnership with the Youth Volunteer Corps of Hampton Roads provides a wealth of service opportunities for all of our students at the secondary level. Our students can take pride in their service to others and learn while making meaningful contributions to our community.
