| Gifted Services Resource Team Upcoming Events
Second and Fifth Grade Gifted Services Screening: |
As part of the Plan for the Gifted for Newport News Public Schools, second and fifth graders will be administered the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT) during the testing window of October 6-22, 2008. This aptitude test is a measure of general ability that requires the student to use reasoning and problem-solving skills. It is a completely nonverbal test that is administered in a group format during a thirty minute period in the child’s regular classroom. The NNAT test will help us determine if a child needs to be screened to receive gifted services for the 2009-2010 school year. In January 2009, parents/guardians will receive information regarding their child’s October 2008 test and whether the results indicate that your child qualifies for further screening. Should your address change, please contact your child’s school to update records.

Additional Gifted Services Screening: |
The office of Gifted Services offers courtesy screening for private school, home schooled, and new-to-the-system students. Parents of these students should call the office of Gifted Services to pre-register. This screening is for placement for the 2009-2010 academic year. Please call 757-591-4566 to pre-register.

April 22, 2009 at the NNPS Administration Building, 12465 Warwick Blvd. Screening begins at 7:30 a.m. Students must be pre-registered by April 15, 2009.

August 5, 2009 at Gildersleeve Middle School, 1 Minton Drive. Screening begins at 7:30 a.m. Students must be pre-registered by July 29, 2009.

August 26, 2009 at the NNPS Administration Building, 12465 Warwick Blvd. Screening begins at 7:30 a.m. Students must be pre-registered by August 19, 2009.

Odyssey of the Mind Regional Tidewater Competition: |
The Regional Tidewater Odyssey of the Mind Competition will be held on March 21, 2009 at the Grafton Middle/High School Complex in York County.
