| STUDENT SERVICES
The Office of Student Services is responsible for attendance,
Street Watch, discipline, education for the homeless and home schooling.
A major initiative for attendance involves monitoring of school-based
attendance intervention plans. An integral part of the attendance
initiative is the Street Watch program, which provides police assistance
in locating truant students in the city. Another initiative this
year involves the creation of an interagency youth committee. This
committee will meet quarterly to maintain communication between
youth serving agencies regarding the academic, social, and psychological
needs of youth.
The educational needs of the homeless population are met by a
liaison who works closely with other community agencies and schools
to ensure the requirements of the McKinney Vento Act are met. The
office provides training and assistance to school administrators
in enforcing and interpreting the Rights
and Responsibility Handbook. Each year this handbook is reviewed
and revised by a committee of community, staff and students. Through
these efforts the office of student services helps schools maintain
safe, orderly and nurturing school climates.
