Welcome to the Department of Student Leadership of Newport News
Public Schools. The department provides quality support services
to school division staff, students and community members in the
areas of alternative services and student services. With the demands
of No Child Left Behind and high stakes testing, our department
assists schools and the division’s staff in making informed
instructional decisions to meet the needs of its diverse student
population.
Our areas of responsibility are:

Student Services (attendance,
discipline, homeless students, safe and drug free schools, home
schooling, citizenship education and court services)

Student Assignment (magnet schools,
administrative transfers, tuition waivers & approvals and
alternative placements)

Alternative Services (alternative
programs, adult and continuing education, health services, homebound
instruction and home based instruction)
