Shot Clinics Scheduled for NN Students
Families encouraged to vaccinate middle school students ASAP to receive class schedule
(August 18, 2008) -- All students entering sixth grade, and all new seventh and eighth-grade students, are required to have a dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis) or Td (tetanus and diphtheria) vaccine before beginning the school year in accordance with state law. If rising sixth grade or new students cannot produce the necessary documentation showing that they received the Tdap or Td vaccine in the past five years or are medically exempt, they will not receive their class schedules for the 2008-09 school year.
To assist families with immunization requirements, free shot clinics sponsored by Newport News Public Schools and the Peninsula Health District will be held before school starts:
-
4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Huntington Middle School, 3401 Orcutt Avenue
-
4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at the School Administration Building, 12465 Warwick Boulevard (adjacent to Todd Stadium)
-
8 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m., Friday, August 29, 2008 at the Peninsula Health District, 416 J. Clyde Morris Boulevard (adjacent to Riverside Hospital)
Adults must bring picture identification and the child’s shot record to the free clinics.
Vaccinations may also be obtained from local doctors, military clinics or at other times through the Health District. Virginia law prohibits students from attending school without documentation of this vaccine; Students will not be able to receive their class schedule or attend class without documentation.
