NN SCHOOL BOARD ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS
FOR VACANCY
Vacancy is in the Central
District of Newport News
(June 4, 2008) -- To fill an unexpired term, the School
Board of the City of Newport News will appoint an interim member
from the Central District to serve through June 30, 2010. (Click

The School Board is accepting applications for the vacancy
in the Central District. Newport News citizens interested in
serving on the School Board may submit an application. (See
how to apply below.) The application form may be completed
and/or downloaded online or may be obtained in person at the
School Administration Building, 12465 Warwick Boulevard, Newport
News, Virginia.
Applications must be received by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June
17, 2008, in the office of the Clerk of the School Board, School
Administration Building, 12465 Warwick Boulevard, Newport News,
Virginia 23606. Incomplete applications and applications received
in person, electronically, or via U.S. mail after this time
and date will not be considered.
To be eligible for appointment, citizens must be qualified
voters residing in the Central District of the City of Newport
News, complete the entire application and deliver the form to
Clerk of the School Board by the deadline time and date. All
applicants are subject to a background check.
The School Board will hold a public hearing to receive citizen
input and candidate comments regarding the appointment at 5:30
p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2008, in the Administration Building
Auditorium. Any Newport News citizen who desires to speak may
do so at the public hearing. All speakers will have three minutes
to present comment.
The School Board is scheduled to appoint the new member on
July 2, 2008.
The Newport News School Board appointment will fill the unexpired
term of Dr. Patricia Woodbury, who served on the School Board
since 2002. Dr. Woodbury is resigning from the School Board
effective June 30 after being elected to the Newport News City
Council during the May 2008 elections.
