Special Education Teacher (Home-Based)
20-25 hours per week.
Duties include:
- Developing and delivering home-based instruction as determined
by the IEP for a severely delayed student with autism and limited
to no speech.
- Developing an individual academic and behavioral management
plan based on student needs.
- Developing and implementing a communication system to enhance
student ability to communicate with others.
- Serving as a case manager for the student and chairperson for
the student’s IEP meetings.
- Completing progress reports, checklists and other recordkeeping
activities as necessary.
- Keeping appropriate supervisor and parents informed of student
progress.
- Working with parents and supervisor to implement self-help aspects
of the IEP
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and VA Teaching License with endorsement
in Severe Disabilities or Mental Retardation. Experience with severe
autism. Knowledge of simple sign language and basic communication
skills. Knowledge or the IDEA and other federal/state laws governing
the delivery of special education services. Ability to identify
needs of student and work as a part of multidisciplinary team to
develop and implement appropriate services, work independently,
communicate effectively in oral and written form and maintain effective
relationships with those contacted in the course of the work. Crisis-Prevention-Intervention
Training, MANDT Training or experience with aggressive individuals.
Experience with developing IEPs for students with disabilities.
