IN-HOSPITAL INCOME Full and part-time contracted employees not enrolled in a health insurance option through NNPS NNPS 100% The first of the month after employee receives first paycheck $200 per day benefit for an in-patient hospital stay.
DENTAL INSURANCE Full-time and part-time contracted employees NNPS/Employee The first of the month after employee receives first paycheck Coverage available for employee and family.
VISION SERVICE PLAN Full-time and part-time contracted employees Employee The first of the month after employee receives first paycheck Employee must be enrolled in plan for 2 years. Benefits can be used anytime during 2 year period. Coverage includes one pair of glasses or contacts and 2 eye exams in a 2 year period.
INSURANCE
PREMIUM CONVERSION
Full-time and part-time contracted employees N/A Premium Conversion begins when health insurance premiums are first deducted. Allows employee to pay his/her contribution to medical, dental, and vision premiums with pre-tax dollars.
HEALTH CARE AND DEPENDENT CARE FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNTS Full-time and part-time contracted employees N/A The first of the month after employee receives first paycheck Allows employee to pay non-covered health care expenses and dependent care expenses with pre-tax dollars.
VACATION All full-time 12 month contracted employees NNPS 100% After six months of consecutive full time employment 0-5 years employment - 1 day per month
 
6-10 years employment - 1-1/4 days per month
 
11+ years employment - 1-1/2 days per month
SICK LEAVE Full- & part-time contracted employees NNPS 100% Upon employment See below

On 1st day of contract year, employee will be granted one half of annual sick leave allowance. Employee will be granted other half of sick leave allowance on February 1.
 
12 month employees: 15 sick days, 5 can be used as personal leave
11 month employees: 13 sick days, 4 can be used as personal leave
10 month employees: 12 sick days, 3 can be used as personal leave

SHORT TERM DISABILITY
INCOME
All instructional and administrative contracted employees working greater than or equal to 60% full-time equivalency. NNPS 100% The first of the month after employee receives first paycheck

The amount of sick leave accrued prior to the beginning of disability determines the monetary amount of disability paid to employee.

LIFE INSURANCE Full-time and part-time contracted employees NNPS 100% Upon employment Amount of coverage determined by employee's salary.
CITY RETIREMENT All eligible full-time contracted employees NNPS 100% Upon employment Retirement benefits vested after 5 years of service credit have been earned.
VRS RETIREMENT All instructional and administrative contracted employees working greater than or equal to 60% full-time equivalency NNPS 100% Upon employment Retirement benefits vested after 5 years of service credit have been earned.
TUITION ASSISTANCE Full-time and part-time contracted teachers & other licensed personnel (other than those in position of a provisional license). Part-time must be at least 50%.   NNPS Upon employment One course not to exceed $600 (total) per fiscal year. This benefit is contingent on fund availability.
Full-time contracted provisionally licensed teachers (must have VCLA score report on file in HR). NNPS Upon employment Two courses not to exceed $600 (total) per fiscal year. This benefit is contingent on fund availability.
Full-time and part-time contracted educational support personnel. Part-time must be at least 50%. NNPS Upon employment One course not to exceed $600 (total) per fiscal year. This benefit is contingent on fund availability.  
FAMILY AND MEDICAL LEAVE OF ABSENCE All employees, if you are eligible under the definition of the FMLA law. N/A After 1 year and 1250 hours of employment. SOCIAL SECURITY/OASDI MEDICARE All employees NNPS 50% Employee 50% Upon employment Retirement income, disability income, and Medicare protection as eligible.
WORKERS' COMPENSATION All employees NNPS 100% Upon employment Hospital, physician care and compensation for job-incurred accident or illness as governed by law.
JURY DUTY Full-time and part-time contracted employees NNPS 100% Upon employment Time off with pay for difference between jury pay and regular pay.
EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM Full-time and part-time contracted employees NNPS 100% Upon employment Confidential counseling services through Sentara EAP. Call 757-363-6777 for professional assistance.

DISCOUNTED WELLNESS & FITNESS MEMBERSHIP

Full-time and part-time contracted employees Employee October 1st of each year - employees hired after Sept. 10th must wait until next annual open enrollment period. Discounted corporate membership at Gold's Gym and Riverside Wellness & Fitness Center.

Employee may have payroll deductions for several optional benefits such as savings bonds, 403(B) investment plans, and life insurance. NNPS does not contribute to the cost of these plans. A list of these optional benefits may be obtained from Human Resources.
